    Faith Over Freebies: Priorities Matter

This week, my family and I found ourselves navigating a small dilemma that turned into a valuable reminder about priorities and the impact of our decisions.

We had made a reservation for a Tuesday buffet, the day before my birthday. My family, with the best intentions, suggested we move it to my actual birthday to take advantage of a birthday promotion. While the offer was tempting, I explained that we had specifically chosen Tuesday so as not to conflict with our Wednesday Go Group (Bible study). Postponing a date with God simply for a birthday celebration is wrong. I reminded everyone of the verse from Matthew 6:33 (NTFE): “Make your top priority God’s kingdom and His way of life, and all these things (material things) will be given to you as well.”

    A reminder about priorities

The conversation took a fun turn when someone jokingly suggested we ditch the buffet altogether and just have Samgyupsal!  But ultimately, everyone agreed to stick with the original plan. I explained that while cancellations happen, they can negatively impact businesses, and I believe in treating others how I want to be treated. I wouldn’t want someone to cancel on me, so I extend the same courtesy to others.

In the end, we had a wonderful time at the buffet on Tuesday, enjoying each other’s company and giving thanks to God. More importantly, the experience served as a gentle reminder to keep our priorities in check and to consider the example we set with our decisions and their impact on others.
