Empowering the Next Generation of HR: A Bible-Based Approach to Relevance and Value
We believe in equipping young HR professionals, Gen Z and Millennials, to be data-driven, value-adding contributors, and we believe the Bible offers timeless wisdom to guide their approach.
Setting a Strategic Direction
It all starts with the company’s vision. As Proverbs 29:18a (CEB) states, “When there’s no vision, the people get out of control.” Company vision should serve as the North Star, guiding the organization’s strategic plan and people strategies.
The mission and core values then form the bedrock for key strategies and departmental objectives. “A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense,” reminds us Proverbs 24:3-4 (NLT)
Data-Driven Decision Making
In today’s business world, HR professionals need to be financially literate. Knowing how to read and analyze financial statements is essential when proposing and justifying programs. As Luke 14:28 (NLT) advises, “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?”
Similarly, pay structures should align with the skills that drive organizational success. “He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities,” illustrates Matthew 25:15 (NLT).
Performance Management and Accountability
Regular performance reviews, measured against business objectives, are critical. Factors like OKRs, KPIs, and Behavioral Indicators, drawn from the company’s Vision, Mission, and Values (VMV) and business plan, provide the framework for both departmental and individual appraisals. Proverbs 15:22 (CJB) cautions, “Without deliberation, plans go wrong.”
By grounding people and HR strategies in biblical principles and equipping young professionals with the tools and knowledge they need, we can empower them to make a meaningful impact on their organizations and the people they serve.
