Eight reasons why I still blog, despite the social media boom.
A single word to describe the Filipino internet is ‘social’. The Philippines still holds the highest social media penetration of all countries w/ 96.1% of the online population in social media. Some of the popular sites are as follows:
Facebook- 92.2%; Twitter- 20.3%; Tumbler- 12.6%; LinkedIn- 8.6%
Likewise, with 9 in every 10 searches on the Filipino web, search has largely become synonymous with Google”. Yahoo! comes on distant 2nd with 6.7% and Bing on 3rd.
Though the term “social good” has not caught media attention then, we are doing our part by advocating social computing for social good . We reached-out to parents first and taught them how to keep kids safe online. It has since evolved to include responsible social computing, data privacy and bullying/cyber bullying prevention.
Blogs are good platform to push for the advocacy we support. Blogs serve as the main source of content, social media serves as channel for promotion.

Marketing can build a brand, it can give an illusion of success. But if a campaign is built on half truths, everything will fall a part.
There are many voices in social web and the internet, to be relevant, one must offer value adding options to life’s miseries.
No I am not into acting or short movie productions, but I’m video blogging my keynote presentation, events I hosted, and press briefs I attended.
I am in the opinion that HR should take a more proactive role as strategist, to help the company prepare for its eventual corporate use.
Because blogging has become a source of influence in politics and biz, we have to be responsible because our actions will have an effect to the community.
Use blog to add value- build rather than destroy, and showcase your credentials. This way you will be hired not fired for blogging.
